Matthew & Kimberly (San Luis Obispo)
It’s so refreshing to photograph people in love. The pictures take on a life of their own as a couple expresses who they are honestly and unapologetically in front of the camera. That was definitely Matthew and Kimberly. We had way too much fun shooting bridesmaids and groomsmen. So much fun with the groomsmen, in fact, that we created them their own prom-collage. Facebook that! The whole atmosphere of the day was a western feel with a bit of hippie vibe thrown in. There was cowboy boots, linedancing, wildfowers, and pies instead of cake. The bride's mother passed away in 2006, and to honor her memory, the bride wore her mother's wedding dress for the ceremony. The dress fit like a glove and did not require alterations even after all these years! It was such a good reminder how fleeting this life is and how important it is to treasure people and not possessions.
I love Kimberly’s story of how they first met. “We met in January 2007 in Alicante, Spain. Both of us chose to spend the semester studying abroad and it just so happened that Matt (in Ohio) and I (in California) picked to go with the same study abroad company. Matt arrived a week before I did to go on an optional tour of Madrid, where he was roommates with a guy named Alejandro Rodriguez. When I met up with the group a week later, I noticed Matthew getting off the bus from Madrid and thought he was cute. Matt had noticed me that night, too, as we would later find out. Alejandro ended up being one my roommates in Madrid, and you could say that both Matthew and I took advantage of the guy a little bit--I would ask him what Matt was up to and Matt would ask him what I was doing. We soon exchanged numbers ourselves and became pretty much inseparable for the next 6 months. We continued our relationship long-distance between California and Ohio until Matt moved out to California for law school. We got engaged not too long after that, and the rest is history!”
