Steve Jobs. An Inspiration.
(image borrowed from apple.com) Just today I was chatting with a good friend of mine and shared this inspirational quote from Steve Jobs. Hours later that friend called me announcing Steve's passing. Crazy timing.
"Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything --all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure --these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. there is no reason not to follow your heart." -Steve Jobs.
Steve did much more than create brilliant machines. He revolutionized industries; not just the computer industry. He showed us that if you can dream it, you can do it. I have several friends that work at Apple and they testify that the energy there is electric with creativity. That the people that make up Apple really can do anything. Steve surrounded himself with, employed, and discipled this breed of humans. Dreamers. Doers. Geniuses.
This is inspirational to me because I have always struggled with fear of failure, pride, and the like. When I remember just how long eternity is and realize my life span is a speck on that timeline, I am filled with hope, clarity and determination. I know that I can't afford to not follow my heart and live my dreams.
Here's to Steve and to dreamers everywhere. Be inspired and do something about it.
